CPC was awarded the contract to refurbish the Wiluna Gold Plant for Apex Minerals NL at their Wiluna Gold Project located approximately 1,000km North East of Perth, WA.
The Wiluna Project includes a 1 million tonne per annum processing plant and a BIOX bacterial oxidation plant.
The Wiluna Operation was put on care and maintenance by its previous owners in July of 2007 and in such a manner that it could be restored rapidly and at minimum cost to Apex. CPC commenced activity on site in May of 2008 and immediately formed a close working relationship with the Project Managers; Rapallo Engineers. The crushing circuit was commissioned at the end of October. Processing using the No.1 Mill grinding circuit commenced on the 22nd of November. The No.2 Mill circuit was commissioned on the 5th of December and the first gold bar was poured on the 16th of December 2008.
CPC expended some 15,000 labour hours on the project and completed work with zero incidents or injuries.
Apex Minerals expects the initial production rate from the Wilson’s and Wiluna deposits to be 150,000 ounces of gold per annum. Once mining commences at Youanmi production is expected to increase to 200,000 ounces per annum by the second half of 2009.
