CPC Engineering nominated for WA Innovator of the Year

CPC Engineering was previously announced as a finalist in the WA Innovator of the Year (IOTY) program by Hon Dave Kelly MLA, Minister for Innovation and ICT in early July for its revolutionary Trac Skirt System – a fully adjustable, removable and safer conveyor skirt system, with change out in minutes rather than hours.

The program has showcased innovative and entrepreneurial individuals, businesses and creative minds since 2006. 

The IOTY program is an initiative of the State Government’s New Industries Fund, which aims to enable SMEs to develop greater opportunities to commercialise their ideas and innovations and expand to create new jobs. 

CPC Engineering was one of eight semi-finalists in the Rio Tinto’s Emerging Innovation category.

The Company was nominated for its patent pending Trac Skirt System, which significantly reduces manual handling and eliminates the need for workers to place any part of their body into the inner skirt area or near the belt. 

CPC Engineering along with the other finalists and semi-finalists embarked on commercialisation training which includes pitch presentation training; mentoring; digital and social media strategy as well as a legal health check. 

Minister Kelly said that the awards run in collaboration with industry to promote innovative Western Australians and ensure they grow and develop their ideas locally to create WA jobs and boost the economy.

“This year’s finalists are a fitting testament to the diversity and strength of ideas in our State spanning multiple sectors and demonstrating key benefits for our State.

“This program has proven to help WA businesses expand to create WA jobs. Last year’s Innovator of the Year has gone from one employee to eight employees in just seven months, and it is expected to hire more staff in the coming months,” said Minister Kelly. 

The advantages of the TSS system are:

  • Manual handling is significantly reduced, replaced by mechanical means.
  • At no time, does the maintainer place any part of their body into the inner skirt area or near the belt, therefore; elimination of confined space.
  • Longer liners can be used and adjusted in a fraction of the time, reducing the number of gaps between liners.
  • Liners can be locked both directions using lock washers.
  • Site dust sealing options can be easily retrofitted to the TSS.
  • Inner liner plates can be quickly and positively adjusted using the offset washer.
  • Wear remaining on the plates can be checked externally without getting into the chute or having to stop the belt.
