Flotation Column Installation

Located 900km north east of Perth in Western Australia, the DeGrussa Copper-Gold Mine is one of the highest grade mines in the Asia-Pacific region. The mine produces up to 300,000 tonnes of high grade copper concentrate annually. The processing facility comprises of crushing, milling, flotation, concentrate thickening, filtration and paste production of the plant tailing.
CPC Project Design was awarded the engineering design, procurement, fabrication and construction for the installation of a flotation column cell and other associated plant upgrades to the DeGrussa process plant. The scope of work included:
- Process, civil, structural, mechanical and piping engineering design
- Procurement, inspection and expediting of fabricated items and construction materials
- Fabrication and installation of structural steel and plate work
- Civil construction works
- Mechanical installation of equipment
- Piping fabrication and installation
- Site supervision and provision of all construction labour, tools and equipment
- Pre-commissioning
The project involved improvements to the following process plant areas:
- Installation of a primary classification screen to replace the existing hydro-cyclones
- Replacement and upgrade of pipe work in the primary grinding circuit
- Upgrade of the low pressure air network to the flash flotation circuit
- Installation of a Eriez 4.3m Ø x 10m H flotation column
- Replacement of cleaner and re-cleaner circuit concentrate launders
- Upgrade of tailing discharge box to the final scavenger cell
- Installation of a dual stream Blue Cube analyser
- Upgrade of the regrind pumping and pipe work system
- Upgrade of the regrind thickener pumping and pipe work system
- Upgrade to the plant air system
- Various piping upgrades
